Society erupts in scandal when the Countess Alena Oleski returns to New York after many years abroad to seek a divorce. With her powerful family, the Maginots, firmly against such a drastic action, they enlist Neville Archland, attorney and fiancé of Alena's cousin, April, to convince her otherwise. Yet the more Neville comes to know the jaded Countess, the more he falls in love with her, challenging all the strictures of his privileged, insular world. But Alena has her own dark secrets to contend with, namely a past that continues to haunt her, and the obsessive hold her husband, the fiery Count Julien Oleski, has yet to relinquish. In a sensual retelling of Edith Wharton's The Age of Innocence, The Rage of Innocence explores the influences of love, lust and loss behind Neville and Alena's clandestine affair, set against the glittering backdrop of Gilded Age New York City, and the shadowy recesses of the human heart.

Rage of Innocence Trudy Doyle Books

Ms. Doyle brings to life an amazing period in our history filled with the strict code of 1870's society and the choices that society forces on her characters. You'll find yourself living and breathing the upper crust of Wharton's New York and finding how human they really were. I adored this story. Watching Neville grow and seeing Alena come to terms with the reality of her love for the Count...Edith couldn't hold a candle to this book. Marvelous, absolutely marvelous. Be prepared, when you pick Rage up...you won't be able to put it down. I couldn't.
A fantastic read!
